As I invite and celebrate a milestone birthday, it takes me back to the home away from home I left behind nearly a year ago now. My birthday falls during winter in Australia – It’s a starkly beautiful season. Frosty mornings, crisp, bright days and warm nights by the fireplace, it is truly a living testament to the rich and often formidable, strength and beauty of Mother Nature.
There is a lot we can learn, especially through her formula for winter. When you look at the leaves that fall off and trees that break boughs, but then again in a few months, they find their way back home. They are continuously reborn, only to die again but that never stops them from living a new life and growing again. So why can’t we, created in the likeness and image of God itself, why can’t we fall, get hurt, bear the pain but still have enough courage and energy to stand up and fight back again?
This is the beginning of a new day. I have been given this day to use as I will. My ambitious idea of launching an Organic Baby clothing social enterprise was born today, 11 years ago. Much like the seeds and roots lying dormant at this time of the year, Tiny Twig was also lying dormant, stirring it’s green shoots of new ideas and possibilities in my head. And today, 11 glorious roller coaster years later, it still gives me meaning. And purpose.
Tiny twig and I are always willing to try new things. Willing to make mistakes and grow. As long as we try and we live by the values which inspire us, we will not fail. We will just move in new directions, with new found wisdom. Continuously re-inventing ourselves, being reborn, living and feeling alive everyday.
To all my friends, family, supporters, customers and my Tiny Twig family – thank you for your love and support. And unconditional acceptance. You have given me the courage to go on in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, much like the soil, minerals and fertilizers nurturing the tiny young shoots in Winter.
As we shoot through the earth into success and fame with determination and conviction, I am so glad to share my joy and celebrate with you. And tell you that whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. As Churchill famously said, Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
What I do every day is important to me as I am exchanging a full day’s life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day is gone forever and all I have left behind is a legacy in its place. I am so grateful for the legacy of Tiny Twig in my community – an incredibly bold vision that has now become a beautiful reality.
And now, I am ready to welcome another year, full of things that never were, of new possibilities and the magic of new beginnings.
Happy birthday Tiny Twig. From your partner in crime!
